1. Ubon Ratchathani University has a program in place for student food insecurity or hunger.

Ubon Ratchathani University provides financial support through scholarships to create educational opportunities for students from low-income backgrounds, enabling them to complete their education and promote educational equality. For the fiscal year 2024, the university has allocated the following funds:

1. Scholarships for financially disadvantaged students: 100 scholarships totaling 1,100,000 Baht.

2. Lunch subsidies: 198 scholarships totaling 792,000 Baht.

3. Work-study scholarships: 141 scholarships totaling 510,000 Baht.

4. Scholarships for students with exceptional qualities (high academic performance): 183 scholarships totaling 5,891,000 Baht.

5. Other scholarships:

  • Emergency assistance scholarships: 2 scholarships totaling 30,000 Baht.
  • Scholarships for students who contribute to the university: 19 scholarships totaling 95,000 Baht.
  • Scholarships for students who bring recognition to the university: 10 scholarships totaling 150,000 Baht.

6. Student Loan Fund (Provided by the Government Savings Bank Education Loan Fund):

  • For the 2nd semester of 2023, 6,999 students with a total of 126,118,500 Baht.
  • For the 1st semester of 2024, 8,095 students with a total of 144,753,550 Baht.

2. Ubon Ratchathani University provides interventions to prevent or alleviate hunger among students (e.g. including supply and access to food banks/pantries).

The Nutrition Welfare Fund Committees and their teams specified standards for food prices at the university to help students and staff buy sufficient and inexpensive food. Food centers are located at education and accommodation zones.  Restaurant entrepreneurs are also involved in supporting scholarships for poor and needy students.  The university also offers discounts for students and staff who shop at university stores by showing their students/staff cards or using their  own cups, such as at Amazon Coffee.

3. Ubon Ratchathani University provides  sustainable food choices for all on campus, including vegetarian and vegan food.

Three Markets are located in UbonRatchathani University where students and staff can buy organic and safe vegetables asan alternative to buying food from the university's restaurants. The markets are in the central cafeteria area, the Green Market, and the Safe Vegetables and Organic Products area at the Faculty of Agriculture. There is also a cook-to-order restaurant on campus that serves vegan and vegetarian meals.

4. Ubon Ratchathani University provides healthy and affordable food choices for all on campus.

Ubon Ratchathani University provides hygienic, diverse, and healthy food options. The Property and Benefits Management Office conducts food quality assessments, including inspections of food hygiene, food service facilities, food storage areas, used cooking oil, and checks for contaminants in food ingredients. The results of these inspections meet the standards set by the Ministry of Public Health, and no contaminants were found in the food ingredients.

The university also regulates food prices to ensure they are reasonable, setting food prices as a welfare benefit for students and staff. The prices have remained unchanged for over 9 years (since 2012).

The university is actively involved in supporting local farmers and food producers by promoting food security and sustainable agriculture, as follows:

  • Training Programs: Offering courses on modern agricultural techniques, pest management, organic fertilizer production, agricultural product processing, and marketing.
  • Agricultural Research and Development Center: Conducting research and development on plant varieties, livestock breeds, and agricultural technologies suitable for the local environment, including animal feed research and the development of traditional food industries.

Ubon Ratchathani University organizes activities that encourage local farmers and food producers to meet, exchange knowledge, and share experiences with each other, including:

  • Ubon Ratchathani University, through its Faculty of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, educational institutions, the Ministry of Public Health, local administrative organizations, and the private sector, organizes the "Isan Agricultural Fair" annually. The event features exhibitions by various organizations, as well as academic seminars across different fields, such as vaccine production and health management for indigenous chickens, cherry tomato cultivation as a premium product, advancements in fisheries and aquaculture, development of functional foods for health and future food innovations, training on animal feed production, and pasture management. The fair aims to foster a network for knowledge exchange and enhance agricultural skills for farmers and the general public.
  • Organic Smart Farm Area: Providing space within the university's organic farm where farmers can learn about organic farming practices through training, consultations, agricultural product exhibitions, new technologies, and processed agricultural products. This allows farmers to learn and apply these practices in their own work.
  • Online Marketing Platform: Creating a Facebook fan page as a marketing channel where farmers can sell their products and access information such as agricultural calendars or agricultural product marketplaces.
  • Farm and Processing Plant  (Pilot plants) Visits: Organizing field trips for farmers to visit model farms or food processing factories, allowing them to observe best practices and apply what they learn in their own operations.

  • Product Development Services: Offering product development services for processed agricultural products through prototype factories(pilot plants). In 2024, more than 50 local entrepreneurs have utilized these services.

4.  Ubon Ratchathani University prioritizes purchase of products from local, sustainable sources.

Ubon Ratchathani University supports area entrepreneurs with safe and sustainable agricultural production by purchasing their products. Some of these entrepreneurs are farmers who have received training from the university. This helps to build consumer confidence and generate income for farmers and entrepreneurs. The university purchases products from the following sources:

  1. Kin Dee Tee Ubon: This shop buys and sells organic vegetable products, hand-woven fabrics, processed fabric products, and other agricultural products.
  2. Sesame Learning and Development Center for Sustainable Home Agro-Industry: This center purchases sesame from farmers who have been promoted by the university and processes it into cold-pressed sesame oil, roasted sesame, jam, and other products.
  3. The Office of the President: The President's Office purchases organic vegetables from farmers supported by the university to be given as gifts or souvenirs on various occasions.
